My Favourite Lyrics #6

I couldn't resist. I reinstalled Civilization 4 again today, and rediscovered the title music. Now this is a brilliant A Capella piece. I decided that I would find out what language it was in, and what it meant.

It turns out that this is a rough Swahili translation of the Lord's Prayer, done in A Capella. Now I don't want to flood this blog with lyrics posts, but this one was worth it.

"Baba Yetu" by the Talisman A Capella Group

Swahili

Chorus:
Baba yetu, yetu uliye
Mbinguni yetu, yetu, amina!
Baba yetu, yetu, uliye
Jina lako litukuzwe.

Utupe leo chakula chetu
Tunachohitaji utusamehe
Makosa yetu, hey!
Kama nasi tunavyowasamehe
Waliotukosea usitutie
Katika majaribu, lakini
Utuokoe, na yule
milelea milele!

[ Chorus ]

Ufalme wako ufike utakalo
Lifanyike duniani kama mbinguni.
(Amina)

[ Chorus ]

Utupe leo chakula chetu
Tunachohitaji utusamehe
Makosa yetu, hey!
Kama nasi tunavyowasamehe
Waliotukosea usitutie
Katika majaribu, lakini
Utuokoe, na yule
simama mwehu

[ Closer (Repeat) ]
Baba yetu, yetu, uliye
Jina lako litukuzwe.
English

Chorus:
Our Father, Jesus, who art
in Heaven. Amen!
Our Father, Jesus
Hallowed be thy name.

Give us this day our daily bread,
Forgive us of
our trespasses
As we forgive others
Who tresspass against us
Lead us not into temptation, but
deliver us from Evil
and you are forever and ever!

[ Chorus ]

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done
On Earth as it is in Heaven.
(Amen)

[ Chorus ]

Give us this day our daily bread,
Forgive us of
our trespasses
As we forgive others
Who tresspass against us
Lead us not into temptation, but
deliver us from Evil
and you wake the dead.

[ Closer (Repeat) ]
Our Father, Jesus who art…
Hallowed be thy name.
